UVALDE CLASS OF 1956 MEMORIES
The following was sent on May 14, 2025 to the known addresses of the 48 survivors of the class of 1956.
Greetings Classmates.
I hope this finds you and yours in good health and spirits.
You ever wonder what any of the "survivors" of the class of '56 look like after 69 years?
I do.
I visited Dee on May 14, 2025 and we went out for a hamburger, fries and tea.

I would like any classmate to send me a photo of him/herself to add to this site.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE MEMORY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?
I have lots of them. My favorite mischievous memory occurred after the Field Day of our senior year. You remember Field Day? That occurred every year
towards the end of the school year and pitted the Seniors against the Juniors.
There was a series of events and whichever class won the most events won Field Day. The winners were permitted to create a class flag and fly it for a few
days on the school's flag pole. Well, we did not win!! Which resulted in the Juniors creating their flag. They decided to make it one night at Judy Hunter's house.
David McCord, Dee Rowland and I were not going to roll over and make it easy for them.
That night we surreptitiously drove up to Judy's house with the lights off. I got out and ran to the corner of the house. David kept the car running and Dee was the look-out.
When the Juniors were through they came out of the house with Bobby Culp carrying the flag under his right arm. PERFECT!! I ran lickety-split from the corner of the house towards
Bobby, grabbed the flag, ran around the corner of the block and jumped into David's car and we roared off. We evaded capture.
The next morning when I arrived at school the entire Junior class was sitting out on the lawn and refused to enter until their flag was returned to them. Of course I thought that
was a blast, until Mr. Jones (our principal) called me in to the office. He said something along the line of "Joe, are you ready to turn the school back to me?".
I still thought it was a blast.
RESPONSES TO MEMORIES
From Roy Elliot - "I still believe I am only 21. By the way, who is who in the photo? :-) "
From David McCord -"Great pic of you two handsome old codgers! Enjoyed the memory. But did you have to rat me out?"
From Dudley Birmingham -"Yes, things do change over time. Miss all you folks"
From Tommy Richardson -"Time flys and things change- Coming back from Christmas Mr. Jones ask if I had a good holiday. Yes, and I received a new Winchester 243 for Christmas . He said he would like to see it and we walked to the pickup and checked it out. NOT TODAY!!"
Hello Joe,
My name is Lea Burke. Larry and Tina (Juventina) Nelson's daughter, number 4, they had 5.
I don't know if word got to you but my mom passed on September 26, 2024 around 10 am. She passed peacefully with my husband and me at her side in her home.
She lived an incredibly full life with much joy and fostered so much love in our family. She was an incredible example to us girls...She was strong, sensible and sensitive. Nurturing, oh my goodness, so nurturing and loving. Kisses, cuddles, gentle caresses were always so soothing our entire lives with her. I never saw her turn anyone away, she was accepting of you; whoever and wherever you were at any moment of your journey. She taught us by simply being an example in ordinary daily life. Occasions great and small would come along, waves of merriment, sadness and delight…and her poise in all these situations is what I remember now. What a wonderful experience we were all given to learn about life simply by being in her presence.
I recently looked through a couple of her yearbooks and I am wondering if anyone can answer a question for me...a couple girlfriends would address her as "Dear Blow." Do you know anything about this nickname? If so, please advise me at "puttinggreen5@yahoo.com".
I have attached a picture that was taken maybe a year or two before she transitioned.

Sincerely,
Lea
